Karnataka Rolls Out Tourism Policy:- The Karnataka government has launched its Tourism Policy 2024-29, aiming to elevate tourism as a major economic driver through sustainable growth. During the state budget announcement for FY 2025-26 on March 7, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah allocated Rs 8,000 crore to this initiative, to generate 1.5 lakh employment opportunities.

As part of the initiative, the Sri Renuka Yallamma Temple and Devika Rani Roerich Estate will undergo development under the Special Capital Assistance Scheme, with a budget of Rs 199 crore. Additionally, tourist attractions in ten selected districts will see improvements worth Rs 50 crore in the fiscal year 2025-26.

Development efforts will particularly focus on Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, alongside infrastructure enhancements for highway hubs to facilitate accessibility.
Preserving Karnataka’s Heritage
The government is set to upgrade UNESCO World Heritage sites like Beluru, Halebidu, and Somanathpura. Efforts are also underway to include the historically significant Lakkundi Temple in the World Heritage list, accompanied by the development of necessary visitor amenities and an open museum to preserve its archaeological significance.

Moreover, 25 monuments have been earmarked for restoration under the Namma Smaraka Digital Forum, with plans to extend this initiative further. In a bid to celebrate Karnataka’s rich history, the old DC office (Athara Kacheri) in Mysuru will be repurposed into a state-level museum showcasing cultural and historical milestones.

Enhancing Visitor Experience and Safety
To improve tourist experiences and security, the number of Pravasi Mitras—trained guides and assistants at key locations—will be expanded to 1,000. A 24/7 helpline will be launched to provide real-time assistance, while the One-TAC digital grid will be utilized for data management and coordination of tourism-related activities.
